Crosman 400 repeater

Blew my airgun budget on a single rifle this weekend. Came across this Crosman 400 repeater, very rare in the Netherlands. It's in good shape considering it's almost as old as I am. Great find, very happy.

NitroGary0

thats lovely, pity you didn't have it for the Oddball
Brutuz

Thanks Gary, costing me an arm and a leg but worth every penny if it is in the condition as sold to me  Very Happy
NitroGary0

I'll look forward to seeing it in the flesh at some point in the future

Could bring it to a future OddBall  Very Happy

Received it last night, should do 450 fps w. 14.3 grain, this rifle is abt 100 fps short so needs a bit of attention.

The bottom stock screw nut has been replaced with a non-original one.

Unfortunately QB78 parts won't swap, not the screw nut, nor the screw, different threads  Crying or Very sad

All the threads will be US imperial like 4/40. or 6/32 kind of thing

The 400 is a great gun, mine is an early model steel trigger guard & through stock safe button.
Sold my 622 rifle & Drozd pistol couple weeks back, needed spare cash for my BSA 250 Starfire.
My 400 is a keeper through Smile
Brutuz

How does your 400 perform Ray?

If you had it apart any tweaking tips ?
Oldcrossman

Hi Burt,my 400 is very accurate, have not fired it through my crono, but think I should,it punches holes near through a uk telephone directory.
excellent bolt action, and the little yellow enamel pip that pops out when you have a pellet locked & loaded in it is a nice touch.
The 400 has pride of place over my fireplace,as I say its a keeper.
You have done well to pick one up in nice condition.
For me its one of the best rifles Crosman made,up there with the 160.
Ray..
Oldcrossman

Should have added, not taken rifle apart as it shoots so well, its very loud, must have had some valve work done on it in the past, the double Co2 carts are near empty after 30 shots, must find some sight mounts for it & fit red dot sight that used to sit on the 622.
Brutuz

OK thanks Ray, mine does a lot more shots on two cartridges, first will check the tp seal  Cool
Brutuz

Removed the tp seal, black rubber, "petrified" and damaged, replaced it with a QB tp seal, just a bit better, not much.

Cut a new seal, 2mm longer than the factory tp seal, that did the trick, it's shooting 450 fps average with 14.3 Crosman pellets now, factory specs..

Will test again with 2 fresh powerlets soon.

You can see it just starting to tail off at the end, but none the less, thats a good string of shots.

It amazes me how many shots you get before you tune the nuts off it, my 78 was only giving about 30 shots of around 600fpe before it "went off". The next one I get will be "tuned" to around 9fpe and I reckon on about 60 shots. I wouldn't hunt so mines all target stuff.

I would have to "up" it a bit for the Oddball (all them 50+mtr targets)

Nitro Gary,
Did you mean 600 fpe ? if so,how can I get mine to preform like that?  Alf G.

All things are possible, I have got 600+ fpe out of a QB. Its the trade off in "useability" it takes a lot of Co2 to get the pellet moving at that speed, consequently you get a dramatic drop in the number of shots available.

I have one of these beuteys but its missing its stock, its been modifyed to use the shoulder stock of the 1377. I wonder if you could give me some mesurements of the stock internals as I have a spare 78 stock which I may be able to modify to fit. atb Dave. Very Happy

I'll check for you soon Dave

Good video, must get around to try the 400 through my crono,at a guess from the loud report and the way the pellet slams into target, well over 600fps
